Time Management during the Holidays
Whether you agree or not, things get more hectic for people, especially women, during the holidays. To enjoy stress free holidays, it is very important to practice your time management skills. Here are a few tips that can help you create more time to relax and enjoy with your family during the holidays.
- Plan ahead:
Planning ahead is the most important thing when it comes to time management. Do not wait for the holidays to actually begin to do all of your shopping and decorating. This attitude leads to a lot of stress. The earlier you start planning your activities, the easier it will be when the crunch time comes. Schedule specific days on a weekly basis, starting at least 4 to 5 weeks before the commencement of holidays.
- Create a to-do list:
Creating a to-do list will help you keep track of all the tasks that needs to be done before or during the holidays and determine their order of importance. Cross the tasks off the list once they are done. This will give you a sense of accomplishment and energy to complete the remaining tasks more quickly and efficiently.
- Stay organized
If you want to enjoy stress free holidays, it is very important to stay organized. One of the easiest ways of organizing your activities is adding them to your cell phone’s calendar and setting alerts to remind you constantly about what needs to be done.
- Stop procrastinating:
All of us tend to procrastinate when we have a number of tasks to complete or when we feel a certain task is too demanding or time consuming. Do not adopt this approach and keep telling yourself “I can do this”. One of the best ways to complete big tasks is breaking them down into smaller, more manageable ones.
- Ask for help and delegate:
Never hesitate in asking for help. Ask your partner, children or any other family member to help you with chores. While they are helping you out, you can complete other important tasks that need your full attention.
- Don’t be a perfectionist:
Never try to be perfectionist. Do the best you can and do not worry about the rest.
- Schedule extra time for interruptions:
Remember you can’t always predict the hindrances that will obstruct you while accomplishing a task. You can get hit with unexpected things and interruptions, and it is very important to schedule extra time for any such unforeseen incidents.
