How to Decorate a Virtual House

Having bought your dream house, you will now need to get down to the task of decorating it – however, while you might have the perfect vision in your mind, there is always the risk that it might not look that great in real life. In order to avoid having to conduct experiments on the real deal, and minimize the risks and expenses involved in decorating and redecorating, you can consider decorating a virtual house to see how your design ideas look.
- Start by obtaining a program which you can use to decorate a virtual house – in this regard, there are both paid and free programs available. Some charge a monthly fee, while others are completely free of charge. These programs are powerful home design tools which can be used to make a scale 3-D model of your home, plus texture, color, and furniture. Free programs may not offer some of these features, and if you feel they are necessary, you can consider investing in a paid program. There are a variety of tools available, such as Arrange-a-Room from Better Homes and Gardens, and Plan3D tool, as well as websites like SeeMyDesign, Bruce Hardwood’s Select a Floor, Personal Color Viewer, Design My Room, etc.
- When using virtual-design programs, it is essential to have the measurements of your room handy, as you will need to build a virtual room with the same dimensions. Have measurements of the width and length of your floor, the locations of doors and windows (and other items that are not removable so you know which obstacles are in the way), and the height of the ceiling. Some programs may require photographs of the room in question, while others work better if you have the blueprints for your house. Figure out the measurements according to the specifications of the program you are using.
- Once you have the program, and have got the dimensions of the room right, you can begin to use the features your program offers to decorate the room as per your liking, and then study the effect to see whether it looks good. Some programs are just texture-based (e.g. changing the wall color or the flooring), while others are designed by specific companies to offer customers the option to use their products when decorating the virtual room. Others include features such as room arranging, closet designing, cabinet organizing, counter-top selecting, furniture selection, kitchen island design, garden planning, deck arranging, etc.
