How to Design House Entrance

Setting aside and managing your budget for home decoration is always a tricky task. The lion’s share of the decorating budget usually goes to interior improvements, such as upgrading furniture, changing curtains and buying antique decoration pieces, and the outside of the house gets neglected. Since the outside, especially the front entry, makes the first impression of your home, it should be given due attention.

Luckily, jazzing up the house entrance does not require lots of money. By making just a few modifications you can make your house entrance attractive enough to make heads turn. Here are a few tricks which you can utilize to improvise and reinvent the front entry.

Dress up the front door

The front door is what people focus on the most when they visit your place. To liven up the entrance area, consider painting the door an unexpected colour. Usually people paint their front doors black, white or brown, but you can also select a shade that contrasts with the primary colours. If you have rusty red bricks for instance, try painting the door turquoise, and consider plum if you have khaki stucco. You can also go crazy with colours, painting the door with lipstick red when everything else is classic white.

Create a mini room

It is a great idea to create a mini room on one side of the door by installing a bench with vivid outdoor pillows. You can also add a hanging paper lantern, or an outdoor pendant lamp and a chalked blackboard to convert the plan house entrance into a small sitting place.

Invest in eye-catching hardware

Invest in show-stopping hardware to add an instant zing to the house entry. Replace the old, bland doorknobs and knockers with unique vintage models. This is the simplest and easiest way to liven up an old door. You can find antique hardware in the flea markets and architectural salvage stores.

Pile up plantings

One of the easiest and cheapest ways to add a polished look to your entrance is to place potted plants around the front door. No doubt colourful flowers always look stunning, but it is recommended to stick to no flowering evergreen plants when it comes to adding an elegant touch to your entrance decor.

Light the way

You can always add spice to the entrance by hanging an outdoor chandelier. If you want to use the chandelier for decorative purposes only, and have alternative sources for illumination, then you can also mount an indoor fixture.
